Shaco · the guide, in one page

One build. Same con, every game.

Runes that never change, an item path that scales with how the game is going, the combos that turn a mana crystal into a losing lane for them, and the vision game underneath all of it.

Skill order

Q at 1. Max the box. Everything else is situational.

Deceive — level 1, always

Q Deceive — level 1, always

The taxi. It starts every trade, every escape, every lie. One point, then it waits.

Jack in the Box — max first

W Jack in the Box — max first

The whole game plan. A box is a ward that fights back, it goes on cooldown every time it's up, either guarding river and bushes or riding along in a combo.

Two-Shiv — when the lane needs reach

E Two-Shiv — when the lane needs reach

At level 2–3 the point goes to W most games; E takes it when I need poke and range more than a second box.

Boxes win the lane you're in; shivs win the lanes you visit.

The keystone below isn't a recommendation, it's what I've settled on: Arcane Comet, every game. The short version of why: support Shaco's job is to make the enemy botlane play scared from level 1, and this page is the cheapest fear money can buy.

The item path

The typical game, in order. Branches where the game gets a vote.

the usual game Sapphire Crystal Boots Lost Chapter Ionian Boots of Lucidity Malignance Imperial Mandate Morellonomicon Rylai's Crystal Scepter misc.

Start

Stealth Ward Stealth Ward free
Health Potion Health Potion 50
Control Ward Control Ward 75

Boxes are the real wards. The trinket swaps to Oracle Lens once lane vision is a fight I'm winning anyway.

First back — the mana crystal rule

Sapphire Crystal Sapphire Crystal 300
Boots Boots 300
Amplifying Tome Amplifying Tome 400
Glowing Mote Glowing Mote 250

99% of first backs start with the mana crystal. After that it's boots, tome, or mote, whatever the gold allows. Everything here is already Lost Chapter in disguise.

The engine

Lost Chapter Lost Chapter 1200
Ionian Boots of Lucidity Ionian Boots of Lucidity 900

Lost Chapter almost always comes first; Lucidity fills the gap while it decides what to become. Cooldowns are the con, run it again sooner.

Branch — the mana item, pick one

Malignance

Malignance my pick

Ult them, then keep burning the ground they run to.

Luden's Echo

Luden's Echo

The burst option when the poke war is the whole game.

Blackfire Torch

Blackfire Torch

The popular route, Torch into Liandry's. Correct, just not mine.

Lost Chapter becomes exactly one of these. The rest of the path doesn't care which.

The duo spike

Imperial Mandate Imperial Mandate

Mark the target, the whole team buys the lie. It prints when I'm queued with Mason, the follow-up is guaranteed. In pug games it slides later in the order, or out of it entirely.

The health tax

Morellonomicon Morellonomicon
Rylai's Crystal Scepter Rylai's Crystal Scepter

Honest confession: half the appeal is the ruby crystal. A squishy clown eventually needs health, and both of these let me buy some without feeling like I stopped building damage.

Branch — when I'm fed

Shadowflame Shadowflame
Zhonya's Hourglass Zhonya's Hourglass

When the game got out of hand in my favor: Shadowflame to punish the ones who thought they were safe, or Zhonya's when they've decided the support dies first.

The mechanics

one tool, one clip

Not a combo, a single technique used at the right moment. The shelf grows one game at a time.

Shaco · Matchup Tale 023

The Clone Bomb

It's not a decoy. It's a timer, wearing my face, set to go off exactly where I want.

Jul 20, 2026 · L · 9/13/20 · 49m

The combos

tales, not chapters

Each of these becomes a clip tale when I catch one on replay. The shelf grows one game at a time.

The harass loop

QWAArun

Q behind them, box, auto if it's free, leave. At even health this wins most trades, but it runs on tempo, not damage.

clip coming: tale it next game

The level 1–2 all-in

QWIgnitethey flash

Only when my ADC is locked in. Ignite goes out after the fear lands, not before, they flash the box anyway, and the box keeps zoning after they're gone.

The Q-E poke

QEcometchunk

Rare on purpose, box placement is almost always the better spend. But with Comet off cooldown and lane priority, this is free damage. Check the map first, no follow-up and no slow once E is thrown.

clip coming: tale it next game

The distraction

Qbe seenWbox survives

Sometimes placing the box right means being the bait. Pop out with the Q and the auto so they aim at me instead of killing the box too fast. I'll even skip the auto, the box placement matters more.

clip coming: tale it next game

Box on cooldown

Wriverbushestri

Not a combo, the doctrine. From level 2 the box is basically never off cooldown: it's a ward that punishes the facecheck, catches the gank before it starts, or tells me exactly where they are.

Why AP, why support

AP because a support income can still buy terror. Support because Shaco's real resource isn't gold or mana, it's attention. Botlane is where attention is cheapest and panic is most contagious. Also: nobody banning Shaco expects the honest version, the one that lands the hook for you, dies for the ADC, and says gl hf and means it.
